Google Business Profile is quickly becoming one of the favorite tools for digital marketers out there. With local SEO quickly surging in both popularity and efficacy, many businesses are opting for more robust local SEO marketing strategy. And when it comes to local SEO, there’s no better tool than a well-optimized Google Business Profile.
One of the easiest ways to improve your local SEO and attract new clients is to add products and services to your Google Business Profile. However, every business has a few special products to promote, so how do you make them stand out from the rest? Let us show you.
How to Place Products at the Top of Your Google Business Page
Each business has a flagship product that they want to direct more traffic to. However, adding all of your products and services to your GBP can be a good way to attract more local traffic. This created a problem for businesses who wanted to differentiate a few standout products. Google is aware of this issue and is rolling out a “Mark as Special” feature for GBP products.
To place a product at the top of your product catalog, all you need to do is follow these simple steps:
- Log into your Business Profile dashboard.
- Select the product you want to place at the top.
- Check off the “Mark as Special” box.
And voilà! The product will be catapulted to the top of your list.
Note that this feature is still being rolled out, so not all business categories will be able to select a special product yet. If you don’t see the “Mark as Special” box, don’t panic! Google should be rolling out the feature for your business soon.
What Products Can Be Added to Google Business Profiles
You can add both products and services to your Google Business Profiles. This includes merchandise and other tangible items that you have for sale as well as non-tangible products such as software and services.
Even if you have a service-oriented business, don’t be discouraged from listing your services in your product catalog! The only exception to this rule is for restaurants, who should instead use the “Menu” and “Popular Dishes” features of GBP to showcase their “product portfolio” and special products.
Why Can’t I Add Products to My Google Business Profile?
Unfortunately, the products feature is not enabled for every Google Business Profile category. While most business categories do have the ability to add products to their profiles, many of them don’t, such as the restaurant category.
To check if your business is eligible to add products to its Business Profile, simply log into your Google Business Profile dashboard. On the left side, you should see a “Products” tab right underneath the “Bookings” tab. If you do not see this tab, that means that none of your business categories have the products feature enabled.
